Srinagar, Aug 20: Senior Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the significant damages caused by a powerful earthquake in north Kashmir, particularly in the Rafiabad area.
The tremor, which struck today, has resulted in severe destruction to hundreds of houses, especially in the villages of Baramulla including Balhama, Ludwa, Fidarpora, Chatusa, Hanuru, Hamam Markoot and many other villages of the area.
During his visit to the affected areas, Vakil said the earthquake had inflicted substantial losses on the homes of people belonging to weaker sections of society. Many families have been left in a state of distress, with their homes damaged and their safety compromised.
In response to the devastation, Vakil urgently called on the government to provide immediate assistance to the affected families. He stressed the importance of the administration acting swiftly to assess the damage and mobilize resources for the rehabilitation of those impacted.
“Immediate financial assistance, temporary shelter, and medical aid are essential for those whose homes have been rendered uninhabitable,” Vakil said, urging the government to prioritise the needs of the victims and ensure their safety and well-being in this time of crisis.
