Leh, Mar 05: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to unveil its contender for the Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections of 2024. The decision is expected to be disclosed this week, with Wednesday emerging as the likely announcement date.
The revelation comes hot on the heels of the party’s recent revelation of the first list featuring 195 candidates for the impending electoral battle.
Sources within the party informed Rising Kashmir that the BJP’s Ladakh unit has meticulously shortlisted three potential candidates. These candidates, namely incumbent Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Chairman of LAHDC Leh Tashi Gyalson, and sitting councillor of LAHDC Kargil from Cha constituency Stazin Lakpa, have had their names forwarded to the higher echelons of leadership in New Delhi.
The decision-making process was marked by a significant meeting presided over by Phuntsok Stanzin, the State President of BJP in Ladakh union territory. This crucial gathering, attended by State Vice Presidents, District Presidents, and Executive Councillors of LAHDC, Leh, witnessed exhaustive discussions revolving around the shortlisted candidates. The final selection was made through a voting mechanism, both in-person via ballot papers and virtually through text messages.
Following the tallying of votes, the triumvirate of Namgyal, Gyalson, and Lakpa emerged as the top contenders. Their names have now been forwarded to the central leadership of the BJP for the ultimate approval process. It is anticipated that the party will officially declare the candidate from Ladakh in its second list, slated for release on Wednesday.
A week before this pivotal decision-making process, BJP’s National General Secretary Tarun Chug chaired a crucial meeting to evaluate the preparedness of the party’s Ladakh unit for the impending Lok Sabha elections. The organizational aspects of the Ladakh BJP were meticulously scrutinized during this session, which took place at the party’s headquarters in the national capital. Notable attendees included Ashok Koul, State General Secretary (Organisation), and Phuntsok Stanzin, the State President of BJP in Ladakh union territory, alongside incumbent MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.
