Handlooms Act implementation awareness camp successfully conducted

Srinagar, Aug 24: An awareness camp on Implementation of Handlooms (Reservation) Act, 1985, was on Thursday organised by Weavers Service Centre, Srinagar Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, in collaboration with Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir at Kashmir Haat, Srinagar.
The camp was attended by various representatives of Handloom Cooperative Societies and Handloom Weavers of Kashmir Division.
Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmad Shah who was chief guest on the occasion addressed the weavers and assured them every possible help for preservation of Handloom sector of Jammu and Kashmir with the implementation of Handloom Reservation Act, 1985.
He also said that vigorous promotion of G.I will be done by the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir to make all stakeholders aware about its importance which will eventually prevent imitation of traditional Hand Made products.
Assistant Director, Head of Office, Weavers Service Centre, Srinagar, also addressed the Weavers and Artisans and said that concrete efforts are being taken to make principal stakeholders aware about Handloom Reservation Act, 1985.
As part of providing relief to the weaver community as more than 74,000 weavers are registered with the Handicrafts & Handloom Department, the latter in association with the Central wool Development Board is organising a mega Pashmina exhibition by the name of “Kashmir wool Expo 2023”at New Delhi.
Also, with the dedicated efforts of the Department of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir, Govt of India has sanctioned a Pashmina Raw Material Bank and a Common Facility Centre for the weaver community of the region.
The Department has also forwarded a proposal to Development Commissioner Handlooms Govt of India for organizing of Special Divisional level Handloom Expo and District Handloom Expos.
