Budgam, Jan 14: Accusing the government of neglecting Nilnag, a high-altitude ancient blue-watered lake, in the development of tourism infrastructure, Chairman of Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has sought the personal intervention of LG Manoj Sinha for the promotion of tourism in various high-potential, virgin tourist resorts in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. These include Yusmarg, Doodhpathri and Tossamaidan.
Yaseen in a statement criticized the government for not allocating any funds for the development of Nilnag Lake during the current fiscal year.
Speaking at a PDF workers convention in Buzgoo in the Chrari Sharief constituency of Budgam on Sunday, Hakeem condemned the concerned department’s neglect of Nilnag tourist resort. He urged urgent measures for the development of Nilnag, Yusmarg, Doodhpathri and Tossamaidan, emphasizing their vast tourism potential for socio-economic prosperity.
He specifically called for the swift implementation of the Nilnag-Yusmarg-Bargah Gondola project, highlighting its potential to generate tourism-related employment opportunities for local youth.
PDF Chairman criticized the tourism department for its lackadaisical approach towards Nilnag’s development, citing the completed construction of four modern tourist huts two years ago that remain unused. He appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to hold those responsible for neglecting Nilnag Lake and its assets accountable. He emphasized Nilnag’s appeal as a top destination for tourists, praising its sparkling blue waters, picturesque surroundings with towering pine trees, and snow-capped mountains.
The former minister also called for the restoration of Shumnadi Kohl, which he said was essential for boosting agriculture activities in Buzgoo village and its adjacent areas. He reiterated his demand for the early execution of the proposed Gulmarg-Tossamaidan-Doodhpathri tourist circuit to diversify and expand Kashmir’s tourism offerings beyond traditional destinations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
Hakeem asked the PDF party cadres to engage with the public to address day-to-day problems. He assured that PDF would vigorously advocate for the rights and aspirations of the people. With the Supreme Court directing the holding of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of September 2024, Yaseen urged people to elect representatives based on merit, honesty, and performance on the ground. He cautioned against falling for exploitative slogans raised by some political parties driven by power lust.
