Gulmarg, Dec 31:The world renowned ski- resort of Gulmarg witnessed a huge tourist influx on Tuesday as people gathered to celebrate the New Year at the snow-doned destination.

The roads leading to Gulmarg were packed from the early hours, as both locals and tourists made their way to this winter paradise. Gulmarg, known for its grand New Year festivities every year, saw a subdued yet lively atmosphere this time, with private celebrations marking the occasion.

Despite the government’s cancellation of official celebrations due to the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the resort remained abuzz with visitors.

Hoteliers in the area reported an impressive turnout. Many hotels were fully booked ahead of the celebrations. “The energy here is palpable. Tourists are still coming in large numbers, which is great for business,” said a hotelier at Gulmarg.

Sushmita, a tourist from Delhi, shared her excitement. “We planned this trip months ago, and it’s been amazing. Gulmarg feels magical with all the snow—it’s like celebrating New Year in a dream,” she said. Another visitor from Mumbai, Mohit, added, “I have been to many hill stations, but nothing compares to Gulmarg in winter. The Gondola ride was breathtaking.”

The officials of the Tourism Department confirmed they were prepared to cater to the needs of the influx. “We have taken all necessary steps to ensure seamless services for tourists,” an official stated. He said that the iconic Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, remained a major attraction, with heavy pre-bookings.

Local businesses and tourism operators expressed optimism about the continued tourist rush. “Gulmarg has always been the winter hub for travelers. We are hopeful that this momentum will carry on in the coming weeks,” said a tour operator.

Locals involved in the tourism industry expressed confidence in the season ahead. “This is our peak season, and the response has been excellent so far. Gulmarg is truly a winter heaven for visitors,” said a local tour guide.

Tourists praised the hospitality and natural beauty of the valley, calling Gulmarg a perfect destination for the New Year. “The serene beauty of Gulmarg, coupled with the warm hospitality, makes it a top choice for any traveler,” said Anita Verma, a visitor from Kolkata.
