Srinagar, Mar 10: The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, has announced that the mandatory Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (Zakat al-Fitr) for this year is set at ₹75 per person. He stressed that this charitable contribution is obligatory for all Muslims, including men, women, and even infants, and must be paid before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam explained that the prescribed amount of Sadaqat-ul-Fitr, equivalent to 1.75 kg of wheat per person, has been valued at ₹75 after consulting Islamic scholars. He urged Muslims to pay this amount on behalf of themselves and their minor children, while adult, financially independent children are required to pay for themselves.
The Grand Mufti emphasised that the donation is meant to assist the less fortunate, such as orphans, the poor, and travellers in need, and should not be used for mosque expenses, religious organisations, or political causes. He called on the people of J&K to fulfill this religious obligation promptly to ensure that their contributions reach the deserving beneficiaries.
