During the meeting, Congress leaders and workers briefed Mir about ongoing party activities and shared insights into the challenges faced by the public in their respective areas, a statement issued here said.
Expressing disappointment with the BJP government, Mir accused it of employing diversionary tactics to distract the public from real issues and suppressing voices critical of misrule and mismanagement. He said that the BJP government’s indifference to the genuine needs of the people in J&K is exacerbating feelings of isolation and despair. He said that elected governments are duty-bound to address public issues, including unemployment and developmental needs.
The Congress leader urged the Central government to restore the democratic process in J&K without further delay. He criticised the BJP for its inaction following the “undemocratic” dissolution of the State Legislature and the downgrade of J&K to a Union Territory.
He called upon the Congress workers to reach out to the public and advocate for their issues, such as ration shortages, power cuts, unemployment, and inadequate development at the grassroots level. “People deserve essential services, including sufficient ration, electricity, water, well-maintained roads, and job opportunities,” he said, adding that the Congress Party would persist in its uncompromising fight against the “wrong policies” of the government.
