Bandipora, July 19: In an effort to enhance the tourist appeal of Gurez Valley of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the district administration has planned the creation of an artificial waterfall in the valley.

The reservoir, which had previously been neglected, will now be transformed into an artificial waterfall at Khandyal Heights, a vantage point that offers panoramic views of the entire Dawar town of the valley.

Joint Director Planning Bandipora, Imtiyaz Ahmad, the driving force behind this initiative told Rising Kashmir that Gurez Valley is already a popular destination, attracting a steady stream of visitors and with the creation of this waterfall, aim is to elevate the tourism potential of the valley to new heights, he added.

Imtiyaz said that the artificial waterfall project will involve lifting water from Asthan Nallah using gravity and returning it back to the Nallah.

He said that during his recent visit to Gurez Valley, he consulted with various stakeholders and sought their support, ensuring a collaborative effort in bringing this project to fruition. The idea conceived will see the light of day if all stakeholders give it a push, he stated.

To facilitate the development of the artificial waterfall, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department has been instructed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) which will outline the necessary steps and resources required to transform the vision into a reality, imtiyaz said.

Recognizing the potential of the surroundings, plans have been made to construct a park beneath the waterfall, amplifying its scenic beauty and providing a serene space for visitors to enjoy, he added.

Imtiyaz further said that this venture will not only add a unique attraction to Gurez Valley but will also contribute significantly to the growth of tourism in the valley. The artificial waterfall, combined with the accompanying park, will provide an immersive experience for tourists and will offer breathtaking views and a tranquil ambiance, he said.

With the administration’s renewed focus on Gurez Valley’s tourism development, the creation of the artificial waterfall is poised to be a milestone in drawing visitors to this scenic destination, imtiyaz added.

Meanwhile, expressing excitement about the tireless efforts of the administration to further elevate the tourism industry in Gurez, a delegation of locals expressed appreciation for the administration’s tireless efforts in enhancing tourism in Gurez and guiding visitors to the hidden gems of the valley, ensuring an unforgettable journey.

The introduction of the artificial waterfall will undoubtedly draw more visitors and Gurez valley will be recognized as a must-visit destination, they added.
