Pulwama : In an inspiring development, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) have become catalysts for profound positive change in the lives of numerous deserving individuals residing at Pulwama’s Aripal block in South Kashmir.
Block Development Officer, Muneer Ahmad, that they ensure that essential government housing schemes reach those who are most in need.
He informed that under PMAY, a flagship initiative of the Government, around 396 eligible families within the Aripal block benefited during the current fiscal year.
“These beneficiaries hail from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the initial housing support installment has been disbursed to all eligible recipients, and concerted efforts are underway to provide them the second installment,” he said, adding that the primary objective is to complete all of these houses by year’s end.
The government’s scheme has offered a lifeline to those who previously had no proper shelter to reside.
The officer also informed that the government ensures that beneficiaries gain 100 days of employment through NREGA, enabling them to secure a livelihood while constructing their homes.
“The Rural Development Department in the Aripal block has fostered a close relationship with the local community. Since the inception of NREGA, its influence on the residents’ lives has been profound. Employment opportunities are extended to all job cardholders,” he said, adding that people approach the department daily, seeking work opportunities, and officials are steadfast in ensuring that each deserving individual reaps the benefits of these government schemes .
Abdul Rasheed Dar, a local resident, said that this year a significant number of beneficiaries have received support under PMAY.
“These individuals were extremely impoverished and lacked the means to build a home on their own. The government has provided them with homes,” he said, adding that there is a significant need for such assistance because there are many landless people in their area.
