Srinagar, Apr 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Health & Medical Education Department on Thursday barred Dr. Hanief Dar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, from engaging in private practice with immediate effect.
According to an official order, an evaluation by the State Health Agency under the AB-PMJAY/AB PMJAY SEHAT Scheme found that Dr. Dar had performed 1,807 surgeries exclusively in private hospitals, with no procedures recorded under the scheme at GMC Srinagar.
The report from GMC Srinagar confirmed that despite being a full-time faculty member, Dr. Dar’s involvement in private practice significantly outweighed his contribution to government service.
“This constitutes a serious violation of the J&K Service Conduct Rules and government directives on private practice by medical faculty,” the order stated.
The government, invoking its authority under the relevant service rules, has therefore prohibited Dr. Hanief Dar from engaging in private practice anywhere in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
It said that non-compliance will invite disciplinary action as per service rules, the order warned.
