Anantnag, Jan 14: “Go Green Aishmuqam,” an initiative to promote eco-sustainable ecology, was launched on Sunday at the famous Ziyarat Shareef Aishmuqam. The initiative is under the aegis of J&K Eco-Watch in collaboration with various stakeholders.
Sofi Arafat, former Municipal Council President, Aishmuqam, said that the ‘Go Green Aishmuqam’ campaign commenced with a plantation drive at Ziyarat Shareef Aishmuqam, in the presence of Greater Aishmuqam Civil Society; J&K Forest Department; J&K Waqf Board; Sakhie Sports Association; volunteers and officials.
He said, the campaign aims at fostering sustainable ecology and environmental conservation under the guidance of J&K Eco-Watch, Adv Nadeem Qadri (Amicus Curiae of High Court), and Shahnawaz Shah. Arafat said that more programs and projects are in the pipeline.
“Amidst rising pollution, we want to promote the plantation drive to convey a broader message of planting more trees for sustainable ecology in the area,” he said.
Arafat said and expressed the commitment to continue the drive, expanding tree planting efforts with the involvement of other stakeholders. “There is a need to address the uncertain weather phenomenon resulting from pollution by going green.”
Adv Nadeem Qadri told Rising Kashmir that his group, along with other participants, conducts such plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns throughout Kashmir to combat environmental pollution.
“It is of great importance to adopt an eco-friendly culture, reducing the use of items that pollute the environment. The current state of the environment, marked by uncertain and snowless winters, is a consequence of neglecting ecological concerns,” he added.
