Jammu, July 25: The Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, (GMC&H-J) on Tuesday got its 4th ‘Incharge Principal’ in the last around 5 years with government today appointing Dr Ashutosh Gupta as new ‘Principal Incharge’ of the region’s premier health institute replacing Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma.
Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, the former Principal of GMC-Jammu, recently faced legal trouble after being booked by the Crime Branch (CB) for alleged tampering with her Date of Birth certificate and providing false information about her age during the MBBS test and service joining. Currently, she is on interim bail.
Dr.Ashutosh Gupta, the Head of the Department (HoD) of Radiotherapy, will now take on the responsibilities of ‘Incharge Principal’ at GMC-Jammu, as per the Government order. Additionally, he will continue with his current duties during his term as ‘Incharge Principal,’ which is initially set for one year, or until further orders.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, the newly appointed Principal, Dr.Ashutosh Gupta, informed that an expert panel will convene in a few months to assess and decide on the regularisation of the GMC-Jammu Principal position. The decision will primarily be based on performance.
Over the past 5 years, GMC-Jammu has seen three other ‘Incharge Principals’ – Dr.Geelani, Dr.Shashi Gupta, and Dr.Ganshyam. However, none of them completed their full term. Notably, there were two full-fledged Principals during this period: Dr NassebDingra, who served for 11 months before stepping down three months before retirement for unspecified reasons, and Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, who was also a regularised (full-fledged) Principal but had to leave the position due to the allegations of tampering with her date of birth certificate.
