SRINAGAR, Aug 27: In preparation for the upcoming General Elections to the Legislative Assembly 2024, the District Election Office (DEO) Srinagar has established an Integrated Election Control Room, Media Certification & Monitoring Committee (MCMC), and a Media Centre at the DC/DEO Office in Srinagar. These facilities have been set up in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a smooth, transparent, and fair electoral process in the district.
The MCMC has been tasked with scrutinizing and certifying political advertisements to be aired on TV, radio, cinema halls, internet-based media, social media, e-papers, and cable networks. This measure aims to keep a close watch on paid news and ensure that all political advertisements comply with ECI regulations. A dedicated email ID, [email protected], has been established for the submission of content for certification.
The Media Centre, which is fully operational, will play a crucial role in disseminating real-time information related to the election process to the public, media, political parties, and other stakeholders. This ensures that all election-related developments are effectively communicated to the public.
Additionally, a 24×7 Integrated Election Control Room has been set up to manage various aspects of the electoral process. The control room is equipped to respond to queries from the electorate and handle any issues that may arise during the election period. The contact numbers for the Integrated Control Room are 1950, +91 194 248 3651, and +91 194 247 1194.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din, who also serves as the District Election Officer (DEO) Srinagar, emphasized that the establishment of these facilities is a vital step towards ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. He noted that the initiative is designed to provide a level playing field for all stakeholders by ensuring that all media content complies with ECI guidelines and by monitoring paid news in print media.
Dr. Mohi-Ud-Din also conducted a detailed inspection of the newly established centres, stressing the importance of coordination among the Nodal Officers and staff involved in the election process. He urged all personnel to work with added zeal and commitment to uphold the sanctity of the polls, in line with the ECI’s directives.
