Budgam, June 06: The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Government Degree College Magam organized a thrilling road race from Magam to Dobiwan, covering a distance of approximately 10 kilometers. Students from various semesters and classes enthusiastically participated in the race, showcasing their athletic abilities.
Amidst an atmosphere filled with excitement, Wasim Raja, a second-semester student, emerged victorious, securing the first position at the finish line. Javeed Bashir, a fourth-semester student, and Ghulam Hussan Wani, a second-semester student, claimed the second and third positions, respectively.
The race commenced at 5:45 am, with the college’s Principal, Professor (Dr.) Mohammad Hussain Malik, flagging off the event from Magam. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the college were present at the early morning ceremony. Notably, the Principal was assisted by several faculty members, including Dr. Izhar-ul-Haq, Head of the Department of Kashmiri; Dr. Sameer Farooq Parsa, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies; Prof. Syed Idrees Ahmad, Convener Sports; Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, Physical Training Instructor; Dr. Mohmmad Idrees, Lecturer in the Department of Commerce; Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din Ahmad, Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration; Dr. Rehan Ahmed, Lecturer in the Department of Urdu; and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Lecturer in the Department of Persian.
The successful execution of the event was made possible with the assistance of the Police Department of Magam, Kunzar, and Tangmarg, as well as the Health Services Department of Magam.
An award distribution ceremony took place in the college’s conference hall, where the athletes, college staff, and collaborating agencies gathered. The SDPO Magam and the college’s Principal presented medals and trophies to the winners. The top seven position holders were honored with medals, while the first three position holders received both medals and trophies. A breakfast was served to all participants at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Addressing the attendees during the felicitation ceremony, the principal expressed gratitude to the collaborating agencies for their support in organizing the event. He commended the dedication of the college staff who worked tirelessly in the early hours and encouraged students to actively participate in co-curricular activities. The principal also extended his appreciation to the students for their efforts and achievements.
The road race organized by Government Degree College Magam proved to be a remarkable sporting event, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and encouraging student participation in physical activities.
