Samba, August 5: Continuing with the vibrant spirit of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Government Degree College (GDC), Samba, on Monday organized an Essay Writing and Painting Competition, providing a platform for students to express their creativity, patriotism, and vision for a united India.As per a statement issued here, the essay writing competition was held on the theme “Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity,” where participants highlighted the transformative power of education in building a peaceful and cohesive society. The students impressed the jury with their insightful ideas and eloquent writing. Ritika Sharma clinched the first prize, followed by Riya Sharma in second place and Ankita Hansa in third. The competition was judged by Associate professor (Dr.) Banpreet Kour and Associate Professor Anju Bala, who lauded the participants for their thoughtful perspectives and articulation. Simultaneously, a Painting Competition was held where students showcased their artistic talents by portraying unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement—individuals whose sacrifices remain largely unacknowledged in mainstream history. The paintings served as powerful visual tributes to those who laid down their lives for the nation’s independence. In this category, Sheetal Devi secured the first position, while Harleen Kour and Manvi Sambyal won the second and third prizes, respectively. The panel of judges included Associate Professor Mala Bhasin and Associate Professor (Dr.) Harjeet Kour Sodhi, who praised the originality and emotion captured in the artworks. All winners were presented with trophies, and every participant received certificates of appreciation for their enthusiastic involvement. The events were conducted under the guidance of the college Principal, Professor (Dr.) Twinkle Suri, who commended the students for their active participation. She encouraged them to continue nurturing values of peace, unity, and patriotism through their talents and contributions to society. The competitions were part of a larger series of events being held by GDC Samba in the run-up to India’s 79th Independence Day, aimed at instilling national pride and civic responsibility among youth.
