The department of botany in collaboration with College Eco Club of Government Degree College Ganderbal organised ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign as part of the Independence Day celebrations and Viksit Bharat@2047 in college premises on Wednesday.

The motive of organising this programme was to join the nation-wide campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ launched by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, where he called upon all citizens to plant a tree as a tribute to one’s mother.

The aim of this campaign is to contribute towards making the Earth a better Planet to live in. The event was attended by principal of the college, Prof Fouzia Fatima, heads of the departments, faculty members and students.

Principal, Professor Fouzia Fatima congratulated the department of botany and college Eco Club for organising this important event and urged all students to take care of the Mother Earth as they take care of their own mothers. She started the campaign by planting a tree sapling.

Dr Shabana Aslam, head, department of botany highlighted the significance of the event and thanked all for joining the campaign. Prof Tabasum Habib, faculty in the Department of Botany co-coordinated the event.

Each Head of the department also planted a tree sapling in the botanical Garden of the college and pledged to take care of the plant.

Non-teaching members and gardeners from Department of Botany assisted in organising the event successfully.
