Four drug peddlers arrested with 4.258 Kgs of narcotics in Anantnag: Police

Continuing its drive against the menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse, Anantnag Police seized over 4.258 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations, apprehended four Peddlers involved in the illegal trade.

A  Spokesperson said that police team from Police Station Bijbehara, during a naka checking operation at Bonpora Uranhal, intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number JK01K-2485. Upon thorough checking, 2.8 kilograms of charas powder-like substance  was recovered from the possession of three individuals traveling in the vehicle.

The accused have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, resident of Khanabal Batangoo, Muzafar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar, resident of Uranhal, Umar Majeed Ganie, son of Abdul Majeed, resident of Chee Anantnag.

He said, “Addtionally police party from Police Station Srigufwara intercepted a suspicious individual carrying a bag while approaching from Chek Poshkreeri towards Poshkreeri. The individual attempted to escape upon spotting the naka party but was swiftly apprehended. Upon questioning, the suspect disclosed his identity as *Mohd Shafi Ganie*, son of Late Gh Ahmad Ganie, resident of Chek Poshkreeri. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of 1.458 kilograms of cannabis powder from his bag.”

In this regard two separate cases under  FIR No’s.12/2025 and 03/2025 has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and Srigufwara respectively and further investigation is in progress.

Anantnag Police reaffirm their commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station. Together, we can work towards a drug-free society.
