Anantnag, July 09: On the direction of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Syed Fakhrudin Hamid, District administration Anantnag, distributed blankets, food grains and other essential items to nomads, non-locals rescued after flash floods wreaked havoc in various areas of the district.
An official at the district administration said proactive measures are being taken to mitigate the impact of inclement weather and incessant rainfall. In response to the prevailing conditions, a special control room was established by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department, with Assistant Director FCS&CA Anantnag at the helm of operations, he said.
The Food department established a special control room to ensure the families’ basic needs. The dedicated team of officials, including TSO Vessu, diligently carried out the distribution of essential food grains, amounting to 12.56 quintals, under intrastate and interstate portability.
The beneficiaries of this humanitarian effort were 64 families comprising rescued nomads and non-local labourers, accommodated at the Government Middle School Zodder and Sofigund-Bagagund near the Railway Station in Anantnag, the official said.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Assistant Director of the FCS&CA Department Anantnag Mudasir Ahmad said, “We have received strict directions from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Anantnag to ensure the prompt distribution of food grains to nomads and non-locals accommodated in Govt Middle School Zodder and Sofigund-Bagagund. Furthermore, we have extended our efforts to facilitate adequate supplies to nomads and non-locals under the portability scheme. The FCS&CA department is fully prepared for any eventuality, and we urge the public not to panic.”
He said the department has always prioritized the welfare of the people and will continue to work tirelessly to mitigate the impact of adverse circumstances on vulnerable sections of society.
The nomads and non-local labourers, who found themselves in distress due to the adverse weather conditions, expressed their gratitude for the timely support extended to them.
One of the rescued nomads, Abdul Hameed, said, “We are deeply thankful to the FCS&CA Department for providing us with essential food grains during this challenging time. Their quick response and efficient distribution system have greatly alleviated our hardships.”
