Srinagar, May 15: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K has launched the Inter Zonal-District Level Competitions for the session, bringing together young athletes from across the region to compete in various sports disciplines. The events, which include Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis, Softball, and Baseball, are being held at the Indoor Sports Complex Wazirbagh and BHS Sonwar, Srinagar.
The competitions kicked off with great enthusiasm as Joint Director YSS Kashmir, Mohammad Rashid Kohli, inaugurated the events in the presence of Deputy Director YSS Srinagar, Ghulam Hassan Lone, and other senior officials. Over 350 boys are participating in the competitions, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship.
During the inauguration, the participants took a pledge to make Srinagar drug-free, highlighting the department’s commitment to promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle among young people. Kohli encouraged the participants to strive for excellence not only in sports but also in academics, assuring them of the department’s support in nurturing their talents.
In a notable achievement, Zone Batamaloo teams have already made their mark, securing spots in the finals of Badminton and Chess across all age groups.
In a parallel event, Zone Batamaloo successfully concluded the Inter-School Zonal Level Kho-Kho and Volleyball competitions for girls in the U/17 category, held at GHS Chatabal. IMI Bemina Girls wing emerged victorious in both disciplines, with trophies awarded to the winning teams. Over 200 girls from government and private institutions participated in the competitions, demonstrating their skills and passion for sports.
