Srinagar, Sept 17: Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) president and Member of Parliament (MP) for Baramulla, Engineer Rashid on Tuesday said he will file a case against People’s Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Lone for “falsely” accusing him of being released from jail before the actual court ruling.
Speaking to reporters in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Rashid said, “I will file a case against Sajad Lone for the false accusations that I was out of jail almost two months before my official court release order.”
“I have spent five and a half years in jail and am suffering for speaking the truth. Those who have lived comfortably and been associated with the RSS are now accusing him of being a central government’s agent,” he added.
Er Rashid and Sajad Lone have engaged in a war of words over the past few days. Earlier, Lone accused Rashid of being a BJP agent and that he was being used like a “remote control” by the saffron party.
Both leaders, who hail from north Kashmir’s Kupwara, are holding power shows in the district.
Er Rashid held a massive workers’ convention in Kupwara on Tuesday, addressing thousands of workers. On the same day, Sajad Lone also addressed a large gathering in the Ramhal area. The two leaders have been political rivals for the past two years.
The PC chief had also claimed that it was he who introduced Er Rashid to politics. Currently, both leaders are campaigning in Kupwara, focusing on their home district. It remains to be seen which leader will secure more seats in this border district.
