Srinagar, Apr 20: National Conference senior leader and Lok Sabha candidate from central Kashmir’s Srinagar segment Aga Ruhullah on Saturday said that efforts of divisive elements need to be fought tooth and nail.
Ruhulla, according to a party statement issued here, said that the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) was not an electoral alliance but meant for a particular cause which is still relevant. “The cause PAGD was formed for still exists. For that, we will have to get united again. We have a big responsibility in the election as it will be a fresh start for our struggle to fight for our rights that were snatched on August 05, 2019,” he said.
Ruhullah added, “The ongoing Lok Sabha election is for that institution where our rights were trampled. This is an important election to make people aware and tell them to wake up and fight for their rights. This is a big opportunity for us to reach out to people and let them know what was taken away from us.”
The NC leader said their contesting polls aim to mobilise political space which was not provided in the last five years. “The decision taken on August 05, 2019, is unacceptable for us. The aim of our contesting elections is to represent the collective sentiment of our people who are disappointed with the declarations of New Delhi,” he said.
“I will not promise people that I will do this and that … rather I will try to restore the rights of my people. In the meanwhile elements who are hell-bent to divide people will be resisted tooth and nail. This fight needs our collective response. We should introspect and find out reasons how to come out of this uncertainty. There is a need for unity and no alternative is left with us,” Ruhulla added. (KNS)
