Baramulla, March 06: Scores of sweepers employed in the School Education Department in Sopore staged a protest on Monday, demanding regularization of their services.
The protestors, including a considerable number of women, gathered at Iqbal Market and raised slogans in support of their demands.
“We have been raising their concerns for a long time, but to no avail. We are working for meager wages and no one cares about our welfare,” the protesting ladies said.
The sweepers, who were appointed in 2006, said they have been working tirelessly in the department, and that their hopes for better conditions have been repeatedly dashed.
“We appeal to the government that our services be regularized at the earliest. We appeal to the LG administration and Director of School Education to address our demands,” the sweepers added. The protestors dispersed peacefully after the police intervened.
