Srinagar, Aug 27: The Department of Bioresources at the University of Kashmir inaugurated the DST-INSPIRE Science Camp 2024, a five-day event sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The camp, which runs from August 27 to 31, aims to inspire top-performing students from Kashmir Valley in science and innovation, providing them the opportunity to interact with global scientific leaders.
The event, held at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir, was organized under the headship of Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Head of the Department of Bioresources. In his opening remarks, Dr. Mir emphasized the significance of the camp in motivating young students toward innovation and scientific discovery. He noted that the camp is designed for top-performing students from Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on interactive sessions with experts in various fields including life sciences, physical sciences, and mathematical sciences.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several eminent personalities including Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Neelofer Khan, Commissioner Secretary JKST&IC, Saurabh Bhagat, and Director of School Education Kashmir, Dr. Tassaduq Hussain Mir. Prof. Khan, addressing the gathering, highlighted the power of science in transforming societies and stressed the importance of building connections and fostering a scientific temperament among students.
A highlight of the inaugural session was the launch of a Breast Cancer Awareness website led by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, in anticipation of the International J&K Breast Cancer Awareness Conference scheduled for October 7-9, 2024. The event also featured a book launch by Dr. Mir, further underscoring his commitment to fostering scientific engagement and research in the region.
The DST-INSPIRE camp will continue over the coming days with a series of lectures and interactive sessions from leading scientists, aimed at motivating young students to pursue careers in STEM fields and contribute to national development.
