Baramulla, March 15:  In a special 10-day enrollment drive launched by the Director School Education Kashmir, Tassaduq Hussain, over 1500 new entrants including out of school and dropout children were enrolled in the Uri subdivision of Baramulla district on the very first day.

The Director visited various educational zones including Uri, Chandanwari, Julla, and Boniyar, where he held an interaction with parents and urged them to enroll their wards in educational institutions of their jurisdiction to benefit from quality education.

“This campaign aims to increase enrollment in government schools and ensure universal enrollment and retention of children,” the Director said.

He said that the School Education Department has been taking various initiatives over the last couple of years to bridge the trust gap between parents and teachers at government schools, and this enrollment drive is one such initiative.

“The aim of this initiative is to enroll more children in government schools through door-to-door campaigns, children rallies, and parent motivation camps,” he further added.

The drive witnessed the presence of dignitaries, including Chief Education Officer Baramula Balbir Singh Raina, Deputy CEO Harminder Singh, and various academicians, educationists, and administrators.

Renowned academician and administrator, Principal Higher Secondary School Salamabad Uri Gh Jeelani Khawaja, thanked the Director School Education Kashmir for launching the enrollment drive from a border town in the sub-division, calling it a good step towards better schooling.

Zonal Education Officer Uri, Shah Mohammad, praised the initiative and said that the enrollment drive will continue to enroll more students from various areas of subdivision Uri.

“Our teachers and other staffers are working day and night to enroll the students, and today we received a good response from parents. We are hopeful to engage people from all walks of life to make this process a success,” ZEO Uri said.

‘Door-to-Door campaign, parent motivation camps part of drive’
To increase the enrollment in the government schools, the mega enrollment drive kicked off in Kashmir on Wednesday. Various teachers, heads of institutions and principals from their schools visited the adjacent areas to sensitize the parents.
From the cluster head school, the teaching staff of various schools started the rally which was led by the cluster complex. The teachers said that the response of the people towards the campaign was good.
A teacher said, “During the drive, we talked to people from different strata of society and made them understand the importance of education. We also made them aware about the facilities and benefits provided by the government schools. People have given us a positive response and seemed interested in admitting their kids to the nearby government school.”
The enrollment drive will last for 10 days without affecting the schoolwork.  The teachers have made a strategic plan to reach out to each and every corner of the ward.
During the campaign, various activities and events will be organized. “Door to Door campaigning, rallies by children, parent motivation camps will be organized by roping in School Management Committees and Village Education Committees and other community leaders, PRIs and village elders to make the campaign successful. Children with special needs and the dropout students are also looked for and enrolled,” she said.
