Srinagar, April 28: In line with directives from State Drugs Controller, Lotika Khujuria and Joint Drugs Controller Irfana Ahmad, a team of Drug Control officers led by Assistant Drugs Controller Dr. Zaffer Ahmad Bhat conducted surprise inspections in the Villgam area and Main market of Handwara.
An official from the Drug Controller Department told Rising Kashmir that the inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with regulations regarding the maintenance of NRX drugs records, CCTV camera installation, and adoption of computerized billing in approximately 25 retail drug sale establishments and 05 wholesale establishments.
While most chemist shops were found to have adhered to the directives, five retail medical shops in Handwara and Villgam were immediately prohibited due to various violations of the Act, she said.
She also said that following the inspections, on-site awareness sessions were conducted to address the issue of youth addiction in Handwara and promote the shift towards digital billing methods.
Meanwhile locals appreciated the proactive role of the drug department in ensuring compliance with regulations and addressing public health concerns.
Joint Controller Drugs said that the inspection drive will continue, and individuals found guilty of violations will be punished according to the law.
