Dr Moonisa Aslam honoured with ‘Young Scientist Award 2024’

Srinagar, Dec 18: A young researcher from Kashmir,  Dr. Moonisa Aslam Dervash has been awarded the prestigious NESA Young Scientist Award 2024 for her remarkable milestones in the field of Environmental Sciences.

The award was distributed during an International Conference on “Advancements in Basic Science, Environmental Studies, and Traditional Medicine for Translational Drug Discovery and Development (TMT3D-2024)” jointly organized by National Environmental Science Academy (NESA), New Delhi and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, from 21st to 23rd November, 2024 and was held at BHU campus. The award comprises of Gold medal, award certificate, memento and a citation.

Dr. Dervash, holds an M.Sc. and B.Ed. from the University of Kashmir and a Ph.D. from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K). Dr. Dervash’s postdoctoral research on Nowgam wetland (Environmental Sciences) was funded by the ICSSR, Ministry of Education, Government of India (2022-2024).

Dr. Dervash has been rewarded for her dedicated work in environmental monitoring, carbon sequestration, women empowerment and mass environmental awareness through Vivedh Bharati, All India Radio, Srinagar. She has authored over 60 research articles/chapters and 8 books with international publishers of repute besides acting as a compere and environmental expert for more than a decade in weekly programme Soun Aoundh Pukk of All India Radio-Srinagar. Her work for environmental conservation, especially through electronic media for mass awareness, has brought her several accolades.

Prof. (Dr.) Panjab Singh (Former Director General of ICAR), Prof. (Dr.) Kavita Shah (Vice Chancellor of Siddharth University), Prof. (Dr.) Altaf Ahmad (Working President of NESA) and two senior officials of BHU presented NESA Young Scientist award to her during a grand award ceremony. It highlights Dr. Dervash’s significant role in global environmental sustainability efforts through research and awareness and positions her as a leading young scientist at national level. The recognition has brought pride not only to Dr. Moonisa Aslam Dervash and her alma maters but also to Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the UT’s significant contributions to national and global scientific progress.
