Jammu, Dec 16: People’s Democratic Party President and Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday fondly recalled the contributions of Dr Masud Choudhary, former Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) and Chairman of Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust, on his first death anniversary.
The PDP President paid heartfelt tributes to Dr Choudhary at an event organized at GDCT Channi, Jammu. Recalling his contributions to education and philanthropy, the former Chief Minister said his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Widely known as Sir Syed of Gujjar Community for his untiring efforts in areas of social and educational awakening, Dr Chaudhary retired as Additional Director General of Police in 2004. Soon after that, he was appointed as the founder Vice-Chancellor of the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri where he eventually went on to spend two tenures.
Dr Masud Sahab shaped the university on modern lines and ensured that the institution carries on a progressive outlook, Mufti said, adding, “When Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University was established, Mufti (Sayeed) Sahab entrusted Masud Sahab with the job, knowing he can deliver. Dr Sahab reluctantly pursued the cause of tribal community and especially focused on their education and empowerment,” she said.
On the occasion, Mehbooba Mufti also prayed for the lasting peace of his departed soul and hoped the flame of empowerment he lit will continue to empower the lives of the members of the tribal community. Chief Patron of the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust and PDP Vice President Ab Hamid Chaudhary, PDP General Secretary Amreek Singh Reen also graced the occasion.
