Srinagar, Oct 17: Senior Congress leader Dr Karan Singh Monday demanded early assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir and said that he was glad to see the Dal Lake cleaned for the first time.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the AICC presidential voting at party’s Srinagar headquarters, Singh, said that things like delimitation exercise has been completed while other formalities are also being done and all parties here have been demanding immediate conduct of the polls as democracy cannot be ensured without the elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We have been hearing that the elections will be conducted in March next year, but there is no official confirmation yet. Congress and other parties have been demanding early polls and they should be held at an earliest,” he said.
About non-local in JK getting voting rights, Singh said his thoughts are unclear about the inclusion of non-local voters in Jammu and Kashmir. “It is strange matter. Some say non-local voters are being enrolled in lakhs and others say in thousands. I don’t know about it,” he said.
In response to a question, he said that post abrogation a lot of claims are being made but the ground reality is something different. “Yes, one thing that I am witness to is that Dal Lake has become crystal clean as I have myself seen the condition of this lake, but I am happy as this lake is being revived and this development happened after 2019”,he added.
