Srinagar, Nov 08: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah paid tributes to the philosopher and ‘Poet of the East’ Dr Sir Muhammad Iqbal on the ‘Iqbal Day’ observance.
In a statement, Dr Farooq termed Allama Iqbal as a great poet and philosopher, who woke up the Muslims of the subcontinent and infused a new spirit and enthusiasm among them through his poetry.
In his ‘Iqbal Day’ message, the NC chief said, “Allama Iqbal played a historic role in Kashmir’s struggles and offered moral and ideological support to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in his fight against tyranny and oppression.”
He said that the philosophy of Allama Iqbal was timeless and holds the solution to a plethora of social, political and economic issues of contemporary times. He said that Kashmiri youth should draw inspiration from Iqbal’s message of “Khudi” and equality to realise their full potential.
