DPS Srinagar students conduct impromptu cleanliness drive after cross-country run

Srinagar, Apr 26: Delhi Public School organised a Cross Country Run for grades 5th and 7th on 26th April 2024 from Duck Park to Nishat Garden via the picturesque foreshore road, under the auspices of the theme: “Sustainable Tomorrow – Go Green.” Over 400 students guided by 50 teachers participated in the race. Besides, students from the LRC department also participated in the race keeping in with the stated aim of the center to integrate specially-abled students with the mainstream society.
The race was ceremoniously flagged off by the worthy principal, Ms. Shafaq Afshan at 6:30 am, separately for girls, boys, and LRC students, ensuring each group had their dedicated start to the event.
Even as the reporting time was 5.30 AM, there was perceptible enthusiasm among the students, which never tapered during the course of the race. Mouzin Wani- 5 E (Ist), Shah Moeizul Islam -5I (IInd) Waleed Javid Khan- 5I( IIIrd) and Aisha Abbas – 5G( 1st) Filza Zahoor- 5G( II nd), Sadiyah Zainab -5G(III) and Malik Eesha Sajad- 5F(III) secured the top three positions in the boys’ and girls’ category in grade 5. Mohammad bin Manzoor-7 G( Ist) Hamza Zargar- 7H (II), Izaan Irshad-7E(III) and Gorma Raina -7A(Ist), Ruwaa Shah 7F(II) and Manha Tariq-7B (III) excelled in the boys’ and girls’ category in grade 7 and Mohd. Afan Dar(1st), Mohammed Suhaib Baba ( IInd) Rehan Nawaz (III) secured three positions from the LRC department. The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates by the Principal.
After the conclusion of the felicitation ceremony, the students conducted an impromptu cleanliness drive. Every wrapper and fruit peel found its way into the dustbins, reflecting their commitment to maintaining a clean environment. This initiative not only showcased their concern for the environment but also reinforced the values of responsibility and respect instilled by the school.
Commenting on the event, the Principal Shafaq Afshan said. “ We are truly delighted at witnessing students rediscover the joy of competition while embracing nature. The school always organises such events to stimulate students into reintegrating with a nurturing environment.” The Chairman, Vijay Dhar also expressed his delight especially at the drive noting, “This event not only showcased the spirit of sportsmanship but also underscored the school’s dedication to fostering a sustainable and holistic future through initiatives like “Sustainable Tomorrow – Go Green.”
