DPAP Senior Leader Peer Bilal on Wednesday advocated for the regularization of daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir, citing the recent order by the Ladakh administration to enhance their wages.
Bilal argued that daily wagers in J&K are facing immense hardships, with their families struggling to make ends meet due to starvation.
“These daily wagers play a crucial role in providing essential services in various departments, including Jal Shakti, RDD*, Health, PWD, PDD, and Agriculture. Given Ladakh’s decision to enhance wages, Peer Bilal questions why J&K, a Union Territory, cannot follow suit”he said.
Adding to it he said that in fact, daily rated workers in Kashmir Valley have been demanding regularization and minimum wages for years, with many employed in government departments, agriculture, tourism, and other sectors. They face low pay, job insecurity, and lack of social security benefits, despite their essential contributions.
Peer Bilal has urged the His Excellency LG to intervene in the matter on a top priority basis, seeking a solution to the long-standing issues faced by daily wagers in J&K.
