Leh, Sept 13: The District Police Leh has intensified its crackdown on drug peddlers and bootleggers, seizing a total of 6.529 kg of ganja and 150 bottles/cans of illicit liquor over the past week.
On 4th September 2024, during routine patrolling in the Skampari area, police apprehended Saah Mohamad Miya, a resident of West Champaran, Bihar, and recovered 3.456 kg of ganja from his possession. Consequently, FIR No. 169/2024, under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, was registered at Police Station Leh, and an investigation is underway. Similarly, on 6th September, acting on a tip-off, police raided the residence of Khoja Ali in Skampari, where non-local tenant Anaral Miyan, also from West Champaran, Bihar, was found with 2.812 kg of ganja, leading to his immediate arrest. FIR No. 171/2024, U/S 8/20 NDPS Act, was filed at Police Station Leh. On 10th September, another arrest was made when Abdul Gaffer, from Parsa Champaran, Bihar, was caught with 1.26 gm of ganja. FIR No. 175/2024, U/S 8/20 NDPS Act, was registered at Police Station Leh.
In addition to these drug busts, several illicit liquor seizures were made. On 10th September, Police Post Choglamsar seized 51 bottles (750 ml each) of rum and 24 cans (500 ml each) of Godfather beer from a Nepali resident, Pemba Sherpa, currently residing in Stakna. FIR No. 176/2024, U/S 48A of the Excise Act, was registered. On 11th September, the police seized 19 cans (500 ml each) of Godfather beer and 19 bottles of rum (750 ml each) from a Nepali woman, Pema Sherpani, residing near CIBS Choglamsar. FIR No. 179/2024, U/S 48A of the Excise Act, was registered at Police Station Leh.
Police Post Kharu also reported a significant seizure of illicit liquor, including 32 cans (500 ml each) of Godfather beer and five bottles (750 ml each) of rum from Upender Shai, a Nepali resident currently living at Kharu Hemis Mord. FIR No. 178/2024, U/S 48A of the Excise Act, was registered.
District Police Leh remains dedicated to eradicating drug abuse and illicit liquor-related crimes from Ladakh, aiming to protect the vulnerable youth from the scourge of addiction. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities in their area.
