Jammu, Dec 29: Seeking personal intervention of Lt Governor J&K, Manoj Sinha against the government officials, Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former minister, S Manjit Singh on Friday criticized Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) for “abruptly disconnecting” the electricity connection of the power consumers in Jammu City.
“The JPDCL has been working in a wayward manner by disconnecting the electricity connection of its consumers in Jammu City’s many areas without serving any show cause notices or prior information to the consumers,” Singh said in a meeting that was organized here at Apni Party Office.
According to the party statement, the meeting had a threadbare discussion regarding emerging power crises in Jammu City due to which residential colonies have been compelled to power cuts for long hours. “These residential areas face electricity cuts without justification, and the unilateral action from the JPDCL without providing an opportunity to the consumers to explain their side,” he said.
He sought the intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha against the officials of JPDCL for alleged harassment and forced power cuts in the residential colonies in Jammu City. “It is a matter of grave concern that the people are not being provided electricity, but their electricity supply lines are being disconnected claiming that they have not deposited their electricity fee,” he said.
Singh said the power consumers should be provided an opportunity and time to explain their position. “The JPDCL has taken extreme steps that amount to unjustified harassment and against the law. The Apni Party will come on the roads and hold protests if the harassment of power consumers is not stopped,” he added.
The Apni Party leader further demanded the supply of 24/7 electricity during these harsh winter seasons.
