Marking beginning of fifth phase of ambitious public outreach “Back to Village” initiative, Principal Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment, Dheeraj Gupta, today visited Ichigam Panchayat and chaired B2V programme here.

Deputy Commissioner, Akshay Labroo, SSP, ADDC, ACD and all district officers attended the programme.

Chairman BDC, Sarpanch and locals of the village submitted their feedback, suggestions and ideas with the Principal Secretary regarding further development of the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Dheeraj Gupta highlighted the importance of conducting “Back to village” programmes. He said that such programmes are being conducted to see development on ground with transformative improvement in work culture of administrative units of the government. He said the programme should be observed as a means to celebrate governance at the grassroots with people’s participation and accountability of the administration.

“Back to Village is a significant initiative with a lot of potential for bridging gap between the administration and the common masses. Administration arrives at the doorsteps of common people to understand them and address their issues on the spot. This approach helps in building trust among the common people for their government”, he asserted.

Reviewing earlier “Back to Village” programmes, Principal Secretary sought action taken report regarding several directions issued in response to public issues and concerns.

Dheeraj Gupta said that the government is committed towards providing all the services to people at their door steps in a transparent and effective manner.

Regarding proper sanitation and disposal of garbage in rural areas, use of separate dustbins and segregation sheds, door to door garbage collection, Principal Secretary asked the PRI members and people to work collectively in synergy with the administration.

Principal Secretary said that plantation drives would be conducted in every panchayat so as to ensure sustainable development with clean environment. He assured that all the developmental works especially projects under JJM would be completed in a time bound manner in the panchayat Halqa.

It is apt to mention that the 5th Phase of Back to Village programme begin today which will culminate on 16th of November in all panchayats across the UT of J&K.
