Jammu, May 29: The Director General of Police, J&K, Shri R.R Swain, conducted a surprise visit to the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in Jammu, where he assessed its functioning and interacted with the personnel stationed there. During the visit, Deepika, SP and head of the Jammu unit of SIA, provided insights into the improved working conditions for SIA investigation officers, highlighting the filing of chargesheets for significant cases related to terror financing and narco-terrorism.
Deepika also briefed the DGP about the anklet program initiated by the CID wing. The J&K police holds the distinction of being the first in the country to introduce this technology-based stringent bail condition, remotely monitoring the movement of offenders facing criminal proceedings for serious and repeated crimes under UAPA, NDPS, and other laws.
Impressed by the strides made by SIA in investigating terror cases, the DGP emphasized its role in instilling a sense of fear in the minds of terrorists and their accomplices within the terror ecosystem.
SIA’s focus on actions such as property attachments, freezing bank accounts, executing Non-Bailable Warrants, and issuing Look Out Circulars to exert social and financial pressure on terrorists was acknowledged by the DGP.
Furthermore, the DGP concurred with the proposition put forward by SIA officials regarding efforts to ensure that individuals involved in terrorism, secessionism, narcotics, land mafia, and gangsterism bear the cost of the anklet. The officials argued that the burden of the anklet and its service, which amounts to approximately ₹50,000, should not fall on the public.
