Jammu, Mar 11: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra said on Tuesday that derogatory words shouldn’t have been said in the Assembly, but the Speaker used his wisdom and law book to expunge them.
Karra was speaking to Rising Kashmir outside the Legislative Assembly in Jammu on the sidelines of the ongoing Budget session.
On BJP’s walkout from the Assembly, he said, “I don’t think he did it on Daily Wagers. I was not there at that time. But he used a very derogatory word when he walked out.”
Karra said, “A senior member of the National Conference had said that the martyrs of 1931 were heroes for us then, are heroes today, and will remain heroes in the future. In response to that, the LoP stood up and used a derogatory word, which led to a din in the house, followed by reactions and counter-reactions, and then he walked out.”
“I think the derogatory word should not have been used, but the Speaker used his wisdom and the rule book to expunge all the words that came from both sides,” he added.
On the Chief Minister’s decision to form a committee on daily wagers, Karra said the issue of employees was a key concern raised post-budget. While the Congress appreciated the government’s focus on social sectors, it also urged the administration to address employee grievances with a human-centric approach, he said.
“The Chief Minister traced the background of this issue, pointing out the role of the BJP in shaping these challenges. He stated that while his government could not resolve the matter immediately due to budgetary constraints, the BJP was in control for years—whether in government, through the LG administration, or under the Governor’s rule—but failed to act on it,” the Congress leader said.
The CM assured that the concerns of employees were not being ignored but that resolving them required a strong financial foundation, Karra said, adding, “As a long-term solution, the government has constituted a high-powered committee tasked with preparing a comprehensive, holistic document within six months to resolve the matter in the future.”
