Deputy Mayor Jammu honours Softball champions

Jammu, Aug 03: Sports and games are more important than education in the present era. The Central Government has been sanctioning a massive budget for promoting sports in every nook and corner of the country. Lots of Centrally Sponsored Schemes are there for raising sports infra and with the introduction of Khelo India conceptualized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the development of stadia is seen even at the Panchayat Level.

This was stated by Baldev Singh Billawaria, Deputy Mayor Jammu during the closing ceremony of the three days District Jammu Softball Championship 2023, which concluded in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Football Ground, GGM Science College, here on Thursday.

The Championship was organised by the Jammu District Softball Association in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.

The chief guest was accompanied by Dr Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director GGM Science College, Rajesh Dhar, Lecturer in Physical Education and C L Bhat, Sr Vice President J&K Softball Association as the guests of honours, while Vikram Singh Chib, President Yuva Rajput Sabha, Dr Virender Singh, Avinash Uttam, Perneesh Mahajan, Veena Gupta, Vikas Mangotra, Incharge GGM Football Ground, Padam Dev Singh, Joint Secretary J&K Softball Association were the special guests.

While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lavished praise on the organisers for making all the requisite arrangements fantastically to hold the Championship in a most befitting manner.

Expressing happiness over the massive participation, he said that such a huge participation of players was rarely witnessed even in national level events.

“It is really a delight to witness such a huge participation of softball sportspersons in a district level event,” Mr Billawaria said.

He further said that talent without opportunity was nothing and the dire need was to provide more and more opportunity to the players, adding that with the technical assistance from the members of the Association, the College will develop its own team for the participation in Inter-University events.

The Championship was organized under the supervision of Yogesh Mahajan as Chairman Organizing Committee; Vikram Singh, Deputy Chairman Organizing Commitee; Harvinder Singh, Convener of the Championship; Rawat Singh, Organizing Secretary of the Championship and the team of Umpires from District Jammu and the Technical Panel from District Samba including Sudhir Singh and Ayush Singh.

Meanwhile, in Senior Boys category, Jammu Enterprises beat Big Cats Club, while in the Senior Girls category, Carmel Convent Girls beat Jammu Enterprises.

In Junior Boys Category, Raipur Warrior drubbed Saint Paul Club, while in Junior Girls category, Carmel Convent got the better of GHS Raipur Satwari and in Sub Junior category boys, GHS Raipur Satwari trounced Evergreen Club.
In Girls category, Carmel Convent defeated GHSS Raipur Satwari.

The Championship with huge participation was sponsored by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
