Srinagar, Sept 07: In a decisive effort to protect the authenticity and reputation of Kashmiri handicrafts, the Quality Control Wing of the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir conducted a rigorous operation in the Narbal-Tangmarg area on Saturday. The operation targeted showrooms suspected of misleading customers by selling machine-made products as genuine handcrafted items.
Led by the Director of Handicrafts and Handloom, officials carefully examined inventories, focusing on carpets, shawls, and other traditional crafts. During the inspections, showroom owners were sternly warned about the serious consequences of engaging in deceptive practices. The department emphasized the importance of issuing accurate and detailed billing to ensure transparency and confirm the authenticity of products sold.
To protect consumers from falling victim to these fraudulent practices, the department urged buyers to exercise caution when purchasing Kashmiri handicrafts. They advised inspecting products closely for signs of machine manufacturing.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the heritage of Kashmiri handicrafts, the department pledged to continue regular inspections and enforce strict measures against those involved in fraudulent activities. This proactive stance aims to protect consumers and support genuine artisans, ensuring that Kashmiri handicrafts maintain their global recognition for quality and craftsmanship.
