Akhnoor, Jan 14: The 9th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and reverence at the Artillery Brigade Tanda in Akhnoor, under the aegis of the Northern Command on Tuesday.
Held annually on 14th January, the day marks the retirement of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, in 1953. First observed in 2016, the occasion continues to honour the invaluable contributions of Ex-Servicemen.
The event was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, and other senior military and civil officials. The gathering not only recognized the dedicated service of veterans but also celebrated their enduring legacy.
A highlight of the event was a captivating dance performance by students from Army Public School Rakhmuthi, which beautifully showcased several key initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Digital India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and Atmanirbhar Bharat. So impressed by the performance, the defence minister invited the students back on stage for a memorable photograph, marking a proud moment for the principal, teachers and students.
The event concluded with the solemn playing of the National Anthem, encapsulating the spirit of unity, patriotism, and the nation’s profound gratitude towards its Armed Forces. Armed Forces Veterans’ Day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and dedication of those who have served in the military, underscoring the importance of remembering and honouring their contributions.
