Srinagar, Dec 31: The Cyber Police Kashmir Zone, Srinagar, achieved significant success in 2024, recovering ₹4.72 crore defrauded from victims of online scams and returning the funds to the rightful owners.
According to officials, the Cyber Police registered 30 First Information Reports (FIRs) during the year, with 10 cases charge-sheeted and presented before the courts for judicial determination. The unit also resolved 577 complaints filed through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and addressed 1,700 miscellaneous grievances, showcasing its commitment to efficient public service.
Taking strong action against cyber fraud, the Cyber Police tracked and deactivated 1,833 fake SIM cards linked to online crimes. Additionally, 150 stolen mobile phones, valued in lakhs of rupees, were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
Beyond crime-fighting, the Cyber Police also focused on public awareness, organizing numerous workshops in educational institutions and government offices. These initiatives aimed to educate people about emerging cyber threats and promote online safety practices.
