JAMMU, Nov 10: In a latest development pertaining to municipal elections, The Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Rajinder Sharma, on Friday said that the elections for Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) would be held after the completion of delimitation exercise of wards and reservation of wards for other Backward Classes (OBCs).
Addressing a media conclave here at Jammu, the Mayor said the LG Manoj Sinha has informed that the elections for JMC and SMC would be held soon after the completion of delimitation exercise and reservation of wards for the OBCs in J&K”.
“Two days back, I met the Lieutenant Governor of J&K Union Territory (UT) and discussed the probability of holding Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections in J&K as their (ULBs) term is about to expire,” the Mayor told Rising Kashmir.”
“It may be mentioned that the term of Srinagar Municipal Corporation has already expired, while the term of Jammu Municipal Corporation is about to expire on November 14 after which the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, the heads of different committees and the corporators will lose all powers.
It may be mentioned that there are 75 wards within the limits of JMC, while the SMC has seventy three wards within its jurisdiction.
