Srinagar, Apr 22: The students and faculty members of the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) Monday participated in the special campaign, Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP-2024) organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) at Tulip Garden here.
Under the guidance of Dean Students Welfare (DSW), the students enthusiastically participated in the flagship programme of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India.
The students and faculty were flagged off by the Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Irfan Aalam from Ganderbal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Irfan Aalam, said the objective of SVEEP is to educate and empower citizens about the electoral process. “Through diverse communication channels, the ECI disseminates voter awareness to promote participation,” he added.
He further said the goal of SVEEP is to encourage every eligible citizen to register and vote in an informed and ethical manner, fostering universal engagement in the democratic process. Dr. Irfan said the idea is to have universal and enlightened participation of citizens in elections and democracy. “Through these efforts, the aim is to reach out to first-time voters, marginalized groups, and other segments of society to ensure inclusive and widespread participation in the electoral process,” he added.
Faculty members Asst Professors Dr. Samreen Geelani and Dr. Ashiq led the participating students.
