Ganderbal, June 10: Residents of New Colony Gund and Rayil in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have reported an outbreak of diarrhoea and fever following the consumption of water from a local water tank. The issue has predominantly affected children and the elderly, causing significant concern among the communities.
For the past several days, numerous locals have experienced severe health issues, prompting visits to nearby hospitals. Medical professionals advised residents to examine their drinking water as a potential source of the ailments. Following this advice, residents have raised the issue with the Jal Shakti Department.
Shabir Masood, Assistant Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department, confirmed receiving complaints about the water quality in Rayil and New Colony Gund. “We have sent teams to the water tank at Rayil to collect samples for testing,” Masood told Rising Kashmir. “The results will take approximately 24 hours, after which we can provide more information.”
The affected communities await the test results to understand the cause of the contamination and to seek solutions to prevent further health issues.
