Srinagar, May 08: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Vikar Rasool Wani on Monday said the party will continue to fight for the restoration of statehood with constitutional guarantees to J&K and will make the BJP government accountable and answerable to people for “failing and betraying” them.
Despite promising to restore statehood to J&K on the floor of the House, a tactical delay is being managed on this count aiming to rule it directly from the Centre, the JKPCC chief said during an “extraordinary function” held at the party’s Srinagar office.
According to the JKPCC statement issued here, Wani welcomed several political leaders from the BJP and AAP into Congress, terming the new joining as “an outcome of the pro-people policies and constructive role of the party”.
During the event, the newly-joined leaders – Syed Hameed Shah OBC State General Secretary AAP, Ghulam Mohammad Mir BJP leader, Ghulam Mohammad Wani BJP, Imran Farooq Bhat youth leader from Srinagar – exuded their full faith in the programmes and policies of Congress and vowed to work for the party to the best of their ability, the statement said.
On the occasion, the JKPCC chief slammed the BJP government for “robbing the people of J&K of their democratic rights and the subsequent betrayals on various fronts, especially when it comes to restoration of statehood and holding of elections (which have led) to a discontent and disenchantment amongst them”.
He reiterated the Congress Party’s “commitment to safeguard the just rights of the people ensuring that they live with honour and dignity and will continue to work for inclusive development of J&K”.
