Srinagar, Dec 12: Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Karra on Thursday reiterated the party’s commitment to restoring statehood for J&K, saying the demand has been its consistent priority both before and after elections.
Speaking to reporters here, Karra said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has already vowed to fight for the statehood of J&K inside and outside Parliament. “Our party has been demanding statehood restoration long before elections. If we look now, all parties are talking about it, but Congress has always been firm on this issue,” he said.
When asked about the ongoing differences between political parties over the statehood issue, the MLA Shalteng Central refrained from commenting, saying, “I can’t say anything about the tussle between them.” However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in issuing business rules for J&K.
“It is unfortunate that even after so much time, the business rules have not yet been issued,” he remarked.
Karra urged the government to expedite necessary administrative measures to address the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
