Srinagar, June 30: In a proactive move to ensure the seamless and safe observance of Muharram-ul-Haram and the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Monday conducted a comprehensive inspection of key sites across Srinagar . She was accompanied by Faz Lul Haseeb, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), along with senior officials from SMC and allied departments.As per an official statement issued here, the visit included prominent Imam Bargahs at Zadibal and Hassanabad, where the Commissioner Secretary personally reviewed the arrangements being made for Muharram processions and religious gatherings. She interacted with members of the Shia community, listening to their suggestions and concerns to ensure a peaceful and dignified observance of the holy month.The inspection focused on critical public services including sanitation, electricity supply, street lighting, drinking water provision, availability of water tankers, drainage and road conditions. The Commissioner Secretary emphasised the need for coordinated efforts and prompt action to address any issues that may arise during the period. She reassured community members of the government’s full support and commitment to public safety and well-being. To uphold hygiene standards, she directed officials to conduct thorough fumigation at all key religious sites, including Imam Bargahs, mosques and shrines. In addition to reviewing Muharram arrangements, Kaur also visited the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Centre at Tengpora to assess its operations. Later, she inspected the Yatra Transit Camp at Pantha Chowk to review the facilities and preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
