Kulgam, Jan 21: A chemist shop was closed, and the operation was disallowed after it was found to be operating outside the rules under the Drug and Cosmetics Act.
An official said that the Drug Control team, during an inspection drive in Kulgam town, examined over a dozen chemist shops.
He said that one chemist shop was shut down on the spot as it was discovered to be without CCTV surveillance and failed to maintain sales records.
“There is zero tolerance for chemists who don’t comply with the law. Having CCTV and maintaining sales records is mandatory for transparency,” he said.
He said that dozens of medical shops were inspected. The chemists were apprised about the importance of abiding the law.
“We also took legal samples for testing and analyzing the drugs given to patients. Additionally, inspections are an ongoing process and will continue,” he added.
