Jammu, June 26: In a significant step towards ensuring adequate treatment facilities for the AIDS patients of Jammu & Kashmir, the Government of India has sanctioned a first ever project ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’ for the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
As per the official figures, there are over 25,000 registered AIDS patients in Jammu region.
“The ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’, once launched, would come as blessing for not only the AIDS patients of Jammu but also for other parts of the J&K Union Territory,” Dr SandeepDogra, Head of the Microbiology Department, GMC, told Rising Kashmir.
Under the project sanctioned by the central government, a lab would also be set up at GMC-Jammu where many STI tests of AIDS patients would be conducted.
“The training of the staff for establishing ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’ at GMC-Jammu has just been started,” Dr Sandeep said, while adding, “the ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’ for AIDS patients would be made fully functional around mid July next month”.
It may be mentioned that this would be the first such ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’ for AIDS patients in J&K being sanctioned and funded by the central government.
Under ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’, the AIDS patients would be provided medicines, tests counselling and all other required help by the experts.
The Principal of GMC-Jammu, Dr Ashutosh said the AIDS patients would soon be provided a holistic care and treatment at ‘SampooranSuraksha Kendra’ coming up at GMC-Jammu.
“The project would be funded by the central government,” the Principal said.
