Ganderbal, Dec 14: The Government of India has sanctioned the construction of a 4-lane highway from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The project, sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is part of the Srinagar Ring Road Phase IIA initiative in Ganderbal district.
The announcement was made by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirming the allocation of the project.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in a Post on “X” In Jammu & Kashmir, we have sanctioned ₹827.98 crore for constructing and upgrading a 4-lane highway from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge, spanning 12.11 km.
This project includes 1 major bridge, 3 minor bridges, 3 realignments, and 51 box culverts, alongside a 2.55 km elevated structure passing through Ganderbal Town. Part of Srinagar Ring Road (Phase-IIA), this highway will significantly enhance connectivity for tourists and defense vehicles traveling to Leh and Kargil.
The project streamlines access to vital regions, fostering regional security and boosting tourism while improving overall travel efficiency.
The highway’s upgrade from a two-lane to a four-lane dual carriageway is designed to ease traffic jams, improve travel efficiency, and support tourism, trade, and defense mobility in the region.
Local residents and social activists have welcomed the move, expressing gratitude to the government for addressing long-standing traffic issues in the region. “The road has been a bottleneck for years, causing daily hardships for commuters. This decision is a big relief,” said a local social activist.
The project is expected to significantly enhance regional growth and improve the quality of life for residents while making the region more accessible for travelers. It marks yet another milestone in Jammu & Kashmir’s journey toward better infrastructure and connectivity, said social activists.
