Kulgam, Sept 14: Honouring the valour and the  sacrifices offered by the security forces while fighting  terrorists in Anantnag encounter , Kulgam Civil Society took out a  Candlelight Vigil at Ganta Ghar on Thursday evening. The civil society was joined by the members of the traders federation in the march condemning the killings of the officers during an  encounter with terrorists that broke out in Kokernag forests on Wednesday.
According to a member of the local civil society, the candle light march was a poignant response to the tragic loss of the security forces in the Kokernag gunfight.
“We are here together representing one voice, condemning the killings of officers. It’s our collective loss as  we  fight together against such forces that disrupt  peace in the valley,” a protesting member said.
Expressing  solidarity with the slain officers, a protester hoped that such incidents should not occur in the future.
Besides civil society; officers of Kulgam police were also seen holding candles to show sympathy with the fallen soldiers.

Pertinent to mention here, the encounter occurred on Wednesday afternoon, claiming the lives of three security officers.

Among the killed were two army officers, and a Deputy Superintendent  (DySP) from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who laid down their lives in the gun battle
